Если мы хотим кому-нибудь рассказать о черной полосе в жизни или о чем-то мрачном, на выручку придут такие английские выражения, как a black day (черный день), things look black (дела плохи, дело принимает неважный оборот), black as ink (черный как сажа, мрачный, безрадостный), black as sin/thunder/thundercloud (мрачнее тучи).

Кроме того, белый цвет может обозначать незаконченность незавершенность: in the white (неотделанный, неготовый, в виде полуфабриката) или бледность: to turn white (побледнеть, побелеть).

He showed his true colors . You are off color today! He said some off color things at the party!
